The main launch at Hood River waterfront. Grassy rigging area, easy access. Can get gusty close to shore.
Washington side of the Gorge. Sandy launch, slightly upwind of Hood River. Popular with kiters.
15 miles east of Hood River. Stronger wind, rougher water. Expert windsurfers and kiters.
A 9–12m kite covers most Gorge thermals. Be prepared for river current drift — self-rescue skills are critical. Freshwater is easier on gear.
